“My Loyalty To Governor Obaseki Remains Unwavering For I Have Sworn To Allows Support Him” Shaibu Says As They Reunite

Phillip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo State, has vowed allegiance and loyalty to his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki despite the rift between them, stating that the latter is still their older brother and superior.

After weeks of conflict between the deputy and the governor, Shaibu accepted the humble pie.

Court order to prevent the governor and the state House of Assembly from impeaching him, the deputy governor went to a Federal High Court in Abuja and got an injunction.

This was revealed by Shaibu in an interview he gave at an interdenominational thanksgiving ceremony held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, to commemorate the Midwest Referendum and the 32nd anniversary of Edo State.

“My loyalty to the governor remains unwavering,” he declared. Everyone is showing solidarity, as I can see. I support the governor in this as well. I also reaffirm my unwavering allegiance to the governor and nothing else.

“I definitely wouldn’t want to talk about the problems that were going on in the neighborhood while I was away. I don’t like talking on television about things that bother my governor. Not at all! I don’t believe I should discuss anything with him because he is both my older brother and my boss.

And if I disagree with him, I believe it is best to resolve the matter privately rather than in public. I had a good upbringing.

“I can tell you from my Christian upbringing that you must keep a pledge you make to God if you intend to do something. I have sworn to God that I will continue to back Godwin Obaseki as governor of Edo State throughout his tenure.

“However, that has no effect on anything related to ambition. Ambition is a personal trait that has no bearing on loyalty. My allegiance to the governor is unwavering. Everyone is showing solidarity, as I can see. I support the governor in this as well. I am also in solidarity with the governor. I am also declaring my unalloyed solidarity and loyalty to the governor and nothing more, Shaibu said.”

Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, stated that the nation is going through difficult times and that the future is dismal in light of the current socio-economic difficulties during the interdenominational Thanksgiving.

The governor urged Nigerians not to give up on their country despite the current conditions and pointed out that the grandeur of the new Edo Nation is poised to undergo a transformation in the areas of infrastructure, development, innovation, and inclusion to create a state where humanity flourishes.

I appreciate everyone who made time to join us in worship at the 60th Mid-West Referendum and 32nd anniversary of Edo State, the speaker remarked.

“We are gathered here today to give thanks and praise to God for all that He has done for our nation. Yes, things are terrible, times are tough, and the future is bleak, but we must give thanks to God because, with our faith and hope in him, things can only get better. I’m supposed to make some announcements about the State and the grandeur of the young Edo nation this morning.

The governor pronounced, “Dear citizens of Edo State, blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,” quoting Psalms 24:1-2. The Earth and everything on it, the World and everyone who lives in it, are all under the control of the Lord because He established them on the waters. (Psalms 24 vs 1-2).

“Father you are as close as the very air we breathe. May we and our beloved State continue to grow and revolve around you and the light, life, and increase fill Edo State.

“Today is a turning point in our path; it is a sermon to bring us together in our efforts as a group. The dawn of this new era has revealed a horizon of endless possibilities. To seize this chance with unwavering tenacity is both our duty and our privilege.

“As we approach change, let us keep in mind the hopes that sparked our passion and the motivation that drives our work; we are the designers of this rising grandeur in our beloved state.

“The glory of the new Edo resides not in its infrastructure alone but in the belief of its people, unwavering in their dedication to progress and unity, burdened with the responsibility to create its destiny. Let’s continue to think innovatively because innovation is the key to progress.

RCGG, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by its conveners, Mr Soala Jumbo and Mr Inyefi Wobo, said it was deeply concerned over the political crisis in the state.

The group called on Tinubu to call for a new peace accord anchored on the Constitution that would guarantee stability and allow the state governor to focus on governance without distractions.

It stated that the crisis plunged into turmoil following the defection of 27 members of the State House of Assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The statement said the clear provisions of the Nigerian Constitution stipulates that such defections result in the loss of the seats of the lawmakers as members of the House of Assembly.

RCGG stated that the defected lawmakers had continued to challenge the authority of the duly elected governor of the state.

The group said it recognises and respects the historical significance of Wike as the immediate past governor and now minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“We appreciated the President for the earlier Presidential accord which was done as an emergency measure but now need a constitutional peace accord that will bring peace and allow the governor to deliver good governance to the people,” the group said.

The group advised that the new peace accord should at least give way for the declaration of the seats of the defecting members as vacant and the holding of elections to fill those seats.

The coalition argued that the political interest of the FCT minister could be protected by other forms of guarantees or compromises that do not affect governance in the state.

The State APC Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris, announced the suspension at a press briefing in Gusau on Friday.

Jaji represents the Kaura-Namoda/Birnin-Magaji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of the APC.

Idris said other allegations against Jaji include the engagement in dishonest practices and habitual absenteeism from the party’s meetings and other activities.

He said the sanction was sequel to the notice of confirmation of suspension of Aminu Jaji from the Birnin-Magaji ward APC executives over the alleged anti-party activities, among other irregularities.

Idris said, “The suspension notice was forwarded to the state APC headquarters by the APC executive committee of Birnin Magaji Local Government.

“The state executive committee of the APC held an emergency meeting at the State Party Secretariat, Gusau today, Friday 17th May 2024, where Jaji’s suspension matter was tabled to the state executive members.

“The state APC executive committee resolved and approved the suspension of Aminu Jaji from the party.

”This is based on the recommendations of the State disciplinary committee in line with his earlier suspension by the APC Birnin Magaji Ward Executive Committee and affirmed by APC Birnin Magaji LG Executive Committee.”

Reacting to his suspension, Aminu Jaji told NAN in a telephone interview that all the allegations against him were baseless and untrue.

Aminu Jaji said the state APC leadership has not followed the constitutional provisions of the party.

He said, “This is a clear indication that the party in the state has no focus and leadership.”
