The ultimatum was delivered on Tuesday by the state chapters of the NLC and TUC, who claimed they had written to the governors requesting that the relevant procedures be expedited and that the award intended to ease the pain of subsidy elimination be put into effect.

The unions asked the governors to start the implementation process, pointing out that the time for paying the wage award was about to expire in two weeks.

This occurred on Tuesday when President Bola Tinubu launched the N1 trillion cash transfer program to 15 million households in an effort to lessen the financial blow that the fuel subsidy had caused.

For a period of three months, each household would earn N25,000. Roughly N1.13 trillion will be spent on the scheme, which would give 15 million households N25,000 per for three months.

Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, stated at the event that the cash transfer would help over 61 million Nigerians.

On October 1, the national leadership of the NLC and TUC came to a deal with the FG to pay N35,000 to all federal employees starting in September, while they awaited the expected enactment of a new national minimum wage.

According to the resolution, federal employees would get their salary award for a period of six months, and states were urged to offer similar benefits to their own workforces.

According to The PUNCH, Labour had planned to go on a national strike on October 3, but the plan was shelved with the condition that the pay award, cash transfer, and a few other resolutions be put into action within thirty days of the Memorandum of Understanding being signed.

Kabiru Inuwa, the chairman of the Kano State NLC, disclosed that he had written to the state administration to request that the N35,000 pay award be implemented in the state right away.

“We have written to the government requesting for the payment of the wage award to workers in the state and we are still waiting for the government to respond,” Inuwa said, noting that the deadline given by the NLC to the federal and state governments to implement the wage award and other welfare packages for the workers would soon expire.

He expressed the hope that the state government would pay the wage award before the expiration of the deadline.

The collaboration was announced by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, during an inspection visit to the Nasarawa State Drugs and Supplies Management Agency (NASDSMA) in Lafia, the state capital, on Tuesday.

Gwamna revealed that the ongoing upgrade of facilities, including warehouses at NASDSMA, aims to ensure the effective management and distribution of drugs in accordance with international standards.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and materials used in the project, describing it as the best in the North-Central Geo-Political Zone.

The commissioner further stated the importance of the agency in addressing the challenges of drug availability and affordability in public health facilities across the state.

He commended UNICEF for its significant contribution to the project, stating that it demonstrates the organization’s commitment to improving healthcare in Nasarawa State.

“I want to commend UNICEF for contributing 85 per cent of the total sum of the project. This is a clear indication that they love the people of Nasarawa State, and as a people, we are grateful to them for their support.

“And I can state clearly that with this huge investment in the infrastructure, and the ability to purchase drugs directly from the manufacturers, the era of supply of substandard and non-availability of drugs in our healthcare facilities is over.

“The prices of drugs in public facilities are now also affordable and uniform across the state because the agency also controls it. At the moment, we are also extending the gesture to private hospitals in the state who are willing to transact business with us,” He stated.

Gwamna, commended the contractor for working according to the specification of the project, stating that delivering quality healthcare services was one of the top most priorities of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration.

The commissioner reiterated the administration’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare services to residents and assured continued efforts to address health needs effectively.

The fight against counterfeit drugs has been a pressing issue in Nigeria, with recent seizures reported across the country.
